Myoreflextherapy

as the term myo-reflex-therapy indicates, this body work method primarily focuses on the muscle structure (=myo) of the human body while applying a specific treatment. The musculoskeletal system of a human body covers 40% of the entire body weight and therefore can be considered as the most evolved organ of the human body.
Each muscle tissue is equipped with receptors so called muscle spindles. The muscle spindles detect and register the degree of elongation (stretch receptors) of the muscle fibers, the activity of a muscle and the position of the participating joints to each other. Specific nerve fibers transmit this information to the bone marrow. With the help of the reflexes in the bone marrow it's possible to coordinate the agonistic and antagonistic movements, as in bending/flexion and reaching/extension. One muscle receives continuous information from the antagonistic muscle and adjusts accordingly- the movements are coordinated.
The Myo-reflex-therapy takes advantage of the reflex function of the musculoskeletal system. If pressure is applied to a specific area of the muscle, it is possible to trigger the reflex as if the muscle is active. The therapist provokes a hypertension for that muscle (choosing a muscle that is already to tense even in inactivity). The hypertension reaches such a degree, that the body is not capable to adjust accordingly. The information about the hypertension is send to the bone marrow (reflex function) and from there forwarded to the brain. The brain stores the information for the regular tension mode of the muscle.
Adjustments are initiated by the brain based on the stored information and the muscle adjusts accordingly.
The treatment can be compared with the instructions on how to use a computer. The muscles would act as the keyboard. The therapist uses the keyboard by applying manual pressure to specific areas of the muscles. The therapeutic adjustment and process of change is located "inside the computer", or staying with the image, the internal process of the clients allow the adjustments of the structure.
